Anxiety and Depression

Painful feelings such as anxiety and depression are a normal part of life and can affect anyone. Sometimes these feelings are temporary and can be eased by relaxation, exercise, a healthy diet, and support of friends and family. At other times, these stressors can become extremely overwhelming and affect a person long-term. This can lead to a more debilitating emotional state, which often has a negative impact in other parts of a person's life. Emotional stressors, relationships, and/or past family experiences cannot be managed so easily. When this happens, and it is hard to function. Counseling can help improve the overall quality of your life and help regain a sense of control and pleasure. Each client that comes to me struggling with depression and/or anxiety has their own unique story, therefore, each therapeutic approach utilized is designed to fit your specific need.

Trauma Related Concerns

Over 50% of people experience at least one trauma in their lives. Trauma can include a wide range of situations, ranging from serious injury, sexual violence, and life-threatening events, to chronic abuse and neglect, witnessing violence, abuse, and/or neglect, and much more. Trauma can be experienced physically, emotionally, and mentally. Experiencing trauma can negatively impact an individual psychologically, physically, socially, financially, and occupationally. Unresolved trauma can negatively impair an individuals life significantly and affect the ability to build healthy relationships. I utilize a multi-faceted therapeutic approach for trauma related concerns. Hypnotherapy is just one approach utilized, which is effective for treating symptoms related to trauma.

Other common behaviors that I commonly work with include aggression, verbal abuse, tantrums, inappropriate sexual behavior, mood disturbances, anxiety, depression, phobias, unresolved grief, exposure to a traumatic event and social skills deficits.  I work with the entire family and any external systems with which the child and family are involved, including school, pediatricians, and psychiatrists.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is a type of psychotherapy that involves several people at the same time. Seeing people who are coping or recovering gives hope to those at the beginning of the process. Being part of a group of people who have the same experiences helps others see that they are not alone. Members are able to help one another by sharing information. Groups currently being offered in my practice are:

  • Postpartum Depression and Anxiety for Women
  • Divorce Support Group
  • Anger Management and Assertive Communication for Adolescents

Women's Needs

Women have specific needs that require special attention  and understanding.  As a woman, I can empathize and relate to issues that women are challenged with in life.  As a therapist, I have vast knowledge and understanding of the mental, physical, and emotional needs of women.  I work with women that may be experiencing anxiety and/or depression, relationship issues, medical related concerns, postpartum depression, birthing complications, difficult life transition, and hormonal changes. It is challenging enough being a woman, but when you are struggling with a life stressor that specifically impacts you as a female it can be extremely overwhelming. It is important to choose a therapist that is a best fit for your specific needs, and specializes in women's needs.
